This guide provides a starting point for stocking a basic bar cart. You can certainly expand your collection if you know what you like, but this summarizes essential items to get you started. If you’re like me and prefer to build your bar as you go, simply follow the recipes I post as we continue this journey together.
- Basic Bottles for a Home Bar: Include a selection of rum (white and/or dark), tequila, whiskey (bourbon, rye, or other), vodka, and gin. See the link for my recommendations on a few brands to get you started.
- Cocktail Making Tools: While household items can work in a pinch, essential bar tools include shakers, a mixing glass, a jigger, bar spoons, a muddler, a bar mat, strainers, and peelers.
- Bitters, Saline, and Citrus…: These add spice, acidity, and other nuances to balance and enhance cocktails.
- Basic Syrups for Cocktails: Used to balance cocktail flavors.
- Cocktail Garnishes: Enhance visual appeal and contribute to the cocktail’s flavor profile.
